Despite possibly receiving iPods sometime this week, it appears that stores are limited from selling iPods until after 6pm on May 2nd. A significant stock of new iPods is expected to be in place by this time.
Apple retailers will be holding special retail events on May 2nd to promote the sales of the new iPods.
This page on Apple's site reports the retail events well run from 6pm-10pm on May 2nd. Some stores will feature special music guests.

Last year, Apple launched CarPlay Ultra, the long-awaited next-generation version of its CarPlay software system for vehicles. Nearly a year later, CarPlay Ultra is still limited to Aston Martin's latest luxury vehicles, but that should change fairly soon.
