Similar to the unofficial "Wrapster", a new file-exchange service called Scour promises the ease/popularity of Napster but with a lot more than just MP3s.
This SF Gate article reports that Scour already has 500,000 users and the big named financial backing.
"The company is instead hoping to gain long-term commercial success by landing legitimate licensing and syndication deals with the same entertainment industry giants that consider San Mateo's Napster Inc. public enemy No. 1."
While there is no Mac client yet, Scour does offer an Open Development program with a published Scour Protocal to encourage 3rd party development. There's already a Perl version available.
