iPod Classic Firmware 1.1.1 Fixes Static Issues

iLounge and MacRumors forums member logicalnoise have noted that iPod Classic Firmware 1.1.1, which is now available via iTunes, has corrected a hissing problem that had been plaguing users when their classics were placed into standby mode.

Before the update when I went into standby my speakers would pop and I'd hear some soft static then when I switched on the button lock my speakers would pop again. After updating this morning going to standby is a silent operation again.

I was just syncing my Classic and figured I'd hit the "Update" button...I have a 1.1.1 upgrade available now. Wonder what this fixes?

Apparently this is a classic-only update. It's not showing up on my system for the 3g Nano Video - so it appears that, for now, the nano3g remains at 1.1

AFAIK, this is the first time an version update for the classic/nano3g series has gone out of sync.

Mine still only says 1.1.1. Would love them to release another update ASAP because since 1.1.1, my classic isn't working with my griffin itrip FM transmitter anymore. :(

Only difference I noticed is that the update before 1.1.1 made my head phone jack powered even in standby. I mainly use my ipod in my car with a RCA jacks going into my receiver. Before the update when I went into standby my speakers would pop and I'd hear some soft static then when I switched on the button lock my speakers would pop again. after updating this morning going to standby is a silent operation again. BTW I have a 80gig classic.

It's interesting, and fortunate, that a hissing problem is only a software issue (which firmware changes can fix), and not a hardware issue.

This update killed my iPod. Its at best buy right now and hopefully they will say it is eligible for an exchange so I can get an iPod touch instead...
