Video Review: A Look at Speck's Cases for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus

In today's review, we're talking a look at iPhone 6 Plus cases from Speck, a well-known accessory company that sells its products in dozens of retail stores. Speck has been in the case-making business for many years now and it offers several iconic cases like the CandyShell and the MightyShell. All of Speck's cases provide a reasonable compromise between protection and thickness. They can keep an iPhone safe from wear, tear, and minor drops, and don't add a lot of bulk to Apple's ultrathin devices. The CandyShell Grip, the first case we looked at, has a hard shell with soft rubber grips on the outside to make it easy to hold. It comes in two variations: with a faceplate for the front of the phone, and without. The CandyShell Grip comes in several colors and is priced at $39.95 to $49.95 (with face plate). Speck's MightyShell, the second case we looked at, is similar to the CandyShell but is more durable with three layers of rubber for better protection. It also comes in multiple colors and in two versions, with a faceplate ($69.95) and without ($54.95). Speck also makes a CandyShell Card case that's able to hold credit cards and cash ($39.95). It's exactly like a CandyShell, but it's a bit thicker with the wallet portion. Finally, we looked at the CandyShell Inked, which is a CandyShell ($44.95) that includes unique, super colorful designs. Speck's iPhone 6 Plus cases can be purchased from the Speck website, and many of them are also available from Amazon.com at a lower price. Speck also sells the same cases for the iPhone 6 at slightly lower prices. No

CES 2018: Speck Announces New Presidio Mount iPhone Case Designed to Work With Scosche Mounts

Speck today announced that it has teamed up with Scosche to create a new Presidio Mount iPhone case that is designed to work with Scosche's lineup of MagicMount magnetic mounts. Scosche's magnetic mounts typically require iPhone users to attach metal mounting plates to their iPhones or iPhone cases using adhesive, but the Presidio Mount includes two steel plates that are embedded between the layers of the case. Speck says the metal plates are invisible because they're mounted inside the case, and they've been positioned so they won't interfere with wireless charging. Like Speck's other Presidio cases, the Presidio Mount includes two-layer protection that can keep an iPhone from getting damaged from drops up to 10 feet high. The inner layer is made from an impact absorbing rubber Speck calls Impactium, while the outer layer is made from a polycarbonate designed to disperse shock. The Presidio Mount is compatible with all cradle-free Scosche MagicMounts and it will be available for the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and later, including the iPhone X. Speck plans to make the Presidio Mount available for purchasein February of 2018 and it will be priced starting at

CES 2017: Speck Launches New Drop-Protective Presidio Cases for MacBook Pro and iPhone

Speck, best known for the cases and accessories it makes for Apple's line of products, is showing off two new protective cases at this year's Consumer Electronics Show. The Presidio Clear is Speck's first drop-resistant laptop case, while the Presidio Show is its latest iPhone case. The Presidio Clear is made with a dynamic transparent material that Speck is calling "Impactium Clear," and according to the company, it is able to absorb and disperse shock, protecting the MacBook from drops as high as four feet. It's made from the same material as Speck's Presidio smartphone cases and is entirely transparent, preserving the design of the MacBook. It is UV resistant so it won't yellow over time. The case snaps on to the front and the bottom of the MacBook, and a raised edge around the case offers a no-slip grip that makes it easier to hold on to one of Apple's thin notebooks. For the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus (and the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus), Speck is debuting new clear Presidio Show cases that are designed to match the colors of Apple's latest devices. The Show was specifically made for the Jet Black iPhone, giving users a way to keep it safe while showing off its glossy finish. The Show uses Speck's Impactium material, which the company says will protect the iPhone from drops up to 10 feet (this is Speck's only clear case with the superior drop protection). While a black version is available now, gold, rose gold, and silver versions will be available in the near future. The Presidio Show for the iPhone 6, 6s, 7, 6 Plus, 6s Plus, and 7 Plus is available for $39.95

When not in use, the Pocket-VR's retractable side panels fold flat, allowing the accessory to be carried easily in a pocket. Speck Announces New CandyShell Inked Luxury Edition Cases for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus

Popular iPhone case maker Speck today debuted a new set of cases in its CandyShell lineup, the Inked Luxury Edition. Like other CandyShell cases, Speck's Inked Luxury Edition cases offer a dual-layer design that combines a rigid plastic outer shell with a rubber interior to offer protection from drops without a huge amount of additional bulk. We were able to check out the Inked Luxury Edition cases in person ahead of launch. They're quite similar to Speck's existing Inked CandyShell cases, but the designs incorporate metallic colors. There are eight different designs available, ranging from floral to geometric, and the designs wrap all the way around the cases. Design wise, there's a lot of variety to suit different tastes. According to Speck, the Luxury Edition cases underwent a "highly technical" printing process that ensures the patterns on the case are resistant to fading and scratching. Speck has also had a third-party test the cases to make sure the metallic finish would not interfere with signal strength. For those unfamiliar with the CandyShell cases, they're not quite as thin as the Apple leather and silicone cases, so they do add some bulk to the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. The cases are in no way minimal, but they don't add as much extra weight and size as something like an Otterbox case. For those who don't mind cases, the CandyShell is a solid compromise between protection and bulk. CandyShell cases offer protection for the volume and power buttons in the form of rubber covers, and there's a rubber lip that extends up over the edges of the phone to

Third-Party Apple Watch Cases Provide Options for Improved Protection

Alongside the launch of the Apple Watch, many third-party businesses have found room to expand their organizations, or create completely new ones, with various collections of charging stands, band swapping websites, and even more rugged cases for Apple's new wearable. These cases, it should be noted, work in conjunction with Apple's previously existing band options. One of the more notable accessory manufacturers to throw its hat into the Apple Watch case ring is Speck, with a line of multi-colored cases for the Apple Watch, called CandyShell Fit, launching later this month. Speck promises the CandyShell Fit is perfect for customers with an intensely active lifestyle, as it "provides full bezel protection to guard the smartwatch's glass screen, defend against shock, and allow complete access to the digital crown and side button." The CandyShell Fit Case by Speck "You only need to do a few things to protect Apple Watch, but you have to do them perfectly and minimally, and in a way that fully honors the design of the device," said Bryan Hynecek, Speck VP of Design. "Speck is about giving people the courage to live their life fully and completely with Apple Watch on, exactly as it was intended to be used." The case combines a hard polycarbonate outer layer shell and a TPU interior to work in combination at providing exterior and interior shock absorption, respectively. The case includes a slightly raised bezel above the Apple Watch touch screen - about 1.5mm - in order to act as a protective bumper between the Watch and outside environment. As expected, the CandyShell
