iPhone 18 Pro: Five Rumored Design Changes

Apple's upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models are not expected to introduce a sweeping design overhaul – that's reportedly being saved for next year's 20th-anniversary iPhone models. But that doesn't mean the new devices will be indistinguishable from their predecessors.

Four iPhone 18 Pro Colors Mock Feature
Apart from four new color options (expected to be Dark Cherry, Light Blue, Dark Gray, and Silver), the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are variously rumored to have the following design changes:

  • Thicker Body: Rumors suggest both iPhone 18 Pro handsets could be up to 2mm thicker, possibly owing to the inclusion of a larger battery inside.
  • Bigger Lenses: Apple is expected to introduce a new variable aperture lens with the 18 Pro models, which could make the rear camera plateau thicker and the lenses more prominent.
  • Uniform Colors: Apple's iPhone 17 Pro models adopted a two-tone design on the rear of the devices where the MagSafe coil is located, but at least one rumor suggests Apple may revert to a more uniform rear aesthetic for the 18 Pro models.
  • Reflective Apple logo: The Apple logo on the back of the iPhone 17 Pro models is subtly defined, but the iPhone 18 Pro models could introduce a more distinctive, reflective logo.
  • Smaller Dynamic Island: Multiple rumors suggest the iPhone 18 Pro models with be equipped with a narrower Dynamic Island, achieved by Apple moving Face ID components under the display.

Apart from these changes, both devices are expected to feature Apple's C2 modem in most countries, a next-generation A20 Pro chip, 5G via Satellite, and LTPO+ displays.

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will be unveiled in September alongside Apple's first rumored foldable iPhone, though the latter device is likely to launch a few weeks later.
