I wish the MagSafe didn't have the magnet. I preferred my third party Qi charger for my 11 Pro Max. I just set it down and picked it up.
Well, I mean it's called "MagSafe" for a reason. ;)

Late to the party but mine finally arrived today. Some observations:

* Three devices charge simultaneously just fine (as expected, of course)
* iPhone 12 Pro Max with Apple MagSafe case attaches very easily. I don't have a non-MagSafe case to try though some reports indicate the magnet is not strong enough for that scenario.
* iPhone charges in portrait (right side up or upside down) and landscape and any odd position you care to rotate to
* There's plenty of room to charge the Pro Max in landscape mode while watching something and still have the 44mm Watch charging in place. I measure approx. 8mm clearance with this setup. This might not hold true if Apple were to ever release a Pro Max++++.
* My iPhone with case can also charge on the base charger where the AirPods rest, useful if you have a second phone to charge (at a slower rate) but the second phone will likely cover up the LED that lights when AirPods charge
* The tiny LED appears to reflect only that AirPods are charging and will turn off if only phone or watch are charging. It is not super bright and is on the top surface of the base. I expect this small, dim LED to not be a concern if the charger is by the bedside.
* The tree is metal but there is a plastic insert, visible from the rear, that probably covers the internal wiring
* The unit is heavy enough that removing the phone one handed is easy, just grab and go with no movement of the charger
* There is no audible whine while charging all three devices
* My watch band is a light sport loop that just hangs there. Not sure if a heavier loop and angle of the watch charger would be of concern or if the magnet is strong enough to account for greater torque on the charger.
* The plastic film on the top of the base was easy to remove but the the film on the bottom was much harder. The little tab that is supposed to help get that started broke off right away.
* This is definitely NOT a portable charger unless you like to go places with heavy, awkward to pack devices
* On apple.com, the price is USD $140 and not $150 as originally reported. While a bit better, a lower price would obviously be better (duh). At least the price includes a charging brick.
* The way the charge brick's plug is inserted is quite nice; you cannot accidentally pull the plug on the charger. On the flip side, if you get tangled in the cord, the whole charger is going flying.

UPDATE Sep 1, 2021: All's well with this charger 7 months later. There's always at least one device on it, often two but rarely three.

I'm sure cheaper ones will pop up from other manufacturers on Amazon, but if you add up all the separate components from Apple's website the Belkin solution is cheaper, only takes up one wall outlet, and looks a hell of a lot better.

You can also charge a non-MagSafe phone on the base, as some people have pointed out before.

The advantage to MagSafe charging is that the phone is precisely placed on the coils and can therefore operate at a faster speed with lower wasted power and thermals. The Android crew is going to whine about having fast Qi charging forever, but the chargers rarely output the full power unless perfectly aligned, which Apple is attempting to fix here.

If they can only figure out how to transfer DATA as well through MagSafe... We won't need a port anymore and it'll be glorious.

Magsafe Charger ($39)
AppleWatch Charger ($29)
Wireless charging pad (>$30)
3x 20W Power Adaptors ($19x3)
Total: $155
