Apple Announces Siri for macOS Sierra With Web and File Searches

At its WWDC keynote today, Apple confirmed that Siri would be coming to the Mac with macOS Sierra. Siri's icon will sit in the top menu bar next to the Notification Center toggle.

Siri can handle context-sensitive searches for things such as files, allowing users to search for files they worked on in the last week or just the files an individual co-worker sent a user. Siri for Mac, which can also work while a user is in a full-screen app, can search the web. Siri's web searches can also be pinned to the Notification Center.

Like Siri for iOS, Siri for Mac can also be used to bring up music, send text messages and open apps. Siri can also be used in conjunction with other new macOS Sierra features, like the updated Continuity and Apple Pay.

I guess this is nice for the people who have been asking for it, I'm still not sold on it being a useful thing on a computer.

In terms of a feature release, this is only barely more exciting than El Capitan, at least for me.

I absolutly, categorically do not care, interrest or have any use for siri on my mac. Auto unlock? I unlock the mac once a day, and it has never been difficoult or time consuming. This is totally uninterresting being a content provider (music), Where is speed enhancement, etc, the mac is not an ipad... Icloud... Meeh apple watch, emojis waaaaa

You can now ask your computer to show you images of a _____ and drag a result from the search window into your project. If that was the only thing Siri did on the Mac it'd be worth it, but that's one feature. And it'll improve every year. I suspect in five years time you'll feel you wouldn't be able to live with Siri on macOS.

"Show me photos from that trip we took to Mexico last year..."

"Show me all the work files I created last week..."

"Skype Mom..."

In fact, call your Mom.
