I’d also like the feature maps.google.com has, where you can drag the route to avoid/approach desired areas. Perfect for touch.

I think this app (along with YouTube) would be updated more often if they weren't default Apple apps.

Take a look at the Garmin Edge 800. It specifically creates routes for bicycling and can re-route on the fly. I love my iPhone, but when I'm on the bike, the Edge works great.
That would be great, I ride my bike all over colorado spring and hate have to zoom way in or scout out the road ahead of time to see if there's a good bike route.

This would be great if it worked for me.
Have you tried changing the view? Maybe it has a cache?

I think this app (along with YouTube) would be updated more often if they weren't default Apple apps.
To be honest, although the Android version of Google Maps and YouTube are updated more regularly, they don't have a lot more functionality.
