New Apple LCD's?
A few days ago, RailHead Design posted a few details/rumors about the future of Apple's LCD line as well as new enclosures for them:
Heres what I know: the 15 inch display will be dissolved and the new low-end display will be the 17 inch model. The 22 inch display will remain the top-dog, and to fill-in the middle spot, Apple will introduce a 19 inch model. So, well have the full range: 17 inch, 19 inch, and 22 inch.
More details under the Nov. 27th entry...

This is one of the more likely rumors I've seen. Apple has been steadily dropping their LCD prices, and it would coincide nicely with an LCD iMac. I wish they were cheaper, though. That 22" display is a thing of beauty. I don't think I've ever been grabbed that much by piece of hardware.

im not commenting on the truth of this but the intelligience. come on now! lcd prices are way too high right now. i know very few apple people who buy apples lcds anymore. designers need the crts for better color quality and home users take one look at the price tag and run for the $150 19" crts. unless the 17" drops to 15" prices this could be very dangerous.
also if lcd imacs are coming (yeah right) then wouldnt it be best to have the lcd in the imac the same size as an lcd sold on its own so apple could order huge quanities of these and drive the costs of them even further down?
dropping the 15" lcd to me means the lcd imac isnt coming for a very long time if ever.

DOH!
I already have a 17" Studio Display. If this rumor is true... I am seriously going to feel about killing myself. To ambitious lemon, Designers are starting to use LCD's, they use less heat, keep their life longer, and newer ones compare extremely well in color against their CRT counterparts (look up Macworld reviews). I actually hope a LCD iMac comes soon... :)

Is good having a 17" LCD and a 19" too. 15" is too smal for the price.
I saw the 22" two months ago and is huge!!! Is the nicest.
I may get a LCD soon.
I've heard that video people do not recomend LCD for editing because the colors are not the same as a normal TV that is the standard in the market.

Maybe we will se a flat iMac at MWSF afterall (I drool already).
It seemes logical if Apple pulled the 15-inch LCD with the arrival of an 15-inch flat iMac. Apple does not like their average-Joe computers to compete with the high-end models, and so, having a 17-inch as the smallest monitor on a G5 would make sense.

One other thing I'd like to see is more input options on the displays, I mean a dual head graphics card that can't plug into 2 identical monitors is a bit of dumb idea to me, apple seem to think it's great. I also liked the original studio display when it came out 'cos you could hook it up to a cable TV system or VCR. Imagine, dual 17" studio displays on your mac, one of them doubled up a very smart TV.
now that WOULD be good. (and completely out of my price range for now at least but here's hoping)

what dantec says is correct about the LCDs now faring pretty well compared to CRTs (a past issue of macworld this year has the stats)
the apple LCDs are between 6 and 7 delta units of accuracy now, and the strict industry standards call for anything under 6 delta units
so for a lot of graphics-related work, the LCDs are passable and it will just be a matter of time before the apple LCDs meet the industry standard for color management
i still see high end graphics professionals with mostly sony trinitron CRTs in the industry though but a few apple LCDs are making their way into some non-color critical desktop studios
i have a client with an apple LCD with those metal shields around the screen that he uses for his main G4 which he has his adobe and marcromedia software on
he prefers the lower eye strain that the LCD offers
