Arlo Ultra Security Camera and Netatmo Weather Station Now Support HomeKit

Two smart home accessories gained HomeKit support today, including the Arlo Ultra security camera and the Netatmo Weather Station. Arlo Ultra While users can already control Arlo Ultra cameras via the Arlo app, HomeKit compatibility enables iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch users to control the cameras with Apple's Home app and Siri voice commands. A free-of-charge automatic firmware update is now rolling out for both new and existing Ultra users. With HomeKit, Arlo Ultra owners will now be able to receive notifications via the Home app when motion is detected. On the iPhone and iPad, users can also use Siri to quickly activate a HD livestream of the camera feed. HomeKit also allows users to set up automations to control other HomeKit-enabled smart home devices. For example, users can set up an automation to trigger HomeKit-enabled lights to turn on at certain times when motion is detected by an Arlo Ultra camera for added comfort and security. Arlo Ultra security cameras have a wire-free setup and feature 4K HDR video quality, color night vision, a 180-degree diagonal field-of-view, an integrated spotlight, and two-way audio with advanced noise cancelation. Pricing starts at $399.99, including a one-year subscription to 30-day rolling storage of cloud recordings. Netatmo Weather Station Netatmo has announced that all of its Weather Stations manufactured since October 2016 are now compatible with HomeKit. CES 2019: Netatmo Announces Smart Video Doorbell With HomeKit Support

Following its recent acquisition by Legrand, French company Netatmo has announced an Apple HomeKit compatible smart doorbell at CES 2019. The Smart Video Doorbell features a typical design that includes a 1080p camera at the top with 160-degree lens and built-in motion sensor, two-way communication via built-in speaker and microphone, and a button at the bottom for visitors to ring. The HomeKit support means that users can receive an instant iOS notification when someone rings the doorbell which enables them to jump straight into the Home app to see who's at the door. The Apple HomeKit integration also extends to automation rules, so users can set up trigger actions like turning on outdoor smart lights when motion is detected. Other smart services like IFTTT are also supported. The Netatmo Smart Doorbell stores video on an onboard microSD card and doesn't need a subscription like some other doorbell security systems. Owners can also choose to automatically save videos in a personal Dropbox or FTP server. On the other hand, Netatmo's product is designed to be a straight doorbell replacement, so a wired connection is required to get it up and running. Pricing information has yet to be disclosed but product availability is expected in the second half of

Netatmo Rolls Out HomeKit-Compatible Smart Radiator Valves in the U.K.

Netatmo yesterday announced the availability of its new Apple HomeKit-compatible smart radiator valves in the U.K. The smart home company claims Netatmo Smart Valves allow users to control their heating on a room-by-room basis and use on average 37 percent less energy to heat their home without compromising on comfort. The Smart Valves can be used in houses with both individual heating and collective heating systems by fitting them on hot-water radiators, where they work to regulate the temperature of each room as part of a heating schedule and adapt to the habits and movements of residents. For example, the bathroom is heated to 21°C during the morning, but not for the rest of the day when it is not being used; the parents' bedroom remains at 16°C during the day when it is empty, and the children's room is heated to 19°C from 5PM on weekdays when they come back from school. In addition to dynamic temperature regulation, the valves can detect when a window is open and stop heating the room so as not to waste energy. And by utilizing smart regulation, the valves analyze external elements in real time – the weather, insulation of the house – and adjust the heating of the room to save as much energy as possible. The user can also temporarily increase the temperature of a room at any time by manually turning the Valve or adjusting it directly from the Netatmo app, as well as via HomeKit and Google Home. Netatmo Smart Radiator Valves are compatible with Apple Homekit, enabling users to control their heating with their voice. By simply asking Siri to change the

CES 2017: Netatmo Debuts HomeKit-Enabled Smart Smoke Alarm

French company Netatmo has unveiled two new consumer-facing smart home products at CES 2017 this week, namely the HomeKit-compatible Smart Smoke Alarm and non-HomeKit Indoor Security Siren. In addition to activating a loud 85-decibel chime when it detects smoke, the connected Smart Smoke Alarm uses a home's Wi-Fi network to send real-time smoke alert notifications to paired smartphones so that homeowners can alert emergency services or carry out other actions necessary when away from home. The smoke alarm is equipped with a 10-year battery, and an alert will be sent when it approaches the end of this lifetime and needs to be replaced. For peace of mind, the alarm automatically performs constant battery and overall performance tests, generating self-check reports that are sent directly to paired smartphones. If the smoke alarm is activated by burnt toast or another false trigger, a Bluetooth LE hush feature enables it to be easily silenced with a paired smartphone using the free Netatmo Security app. An integrated LED strip on the front of the alarm enables users to view its current status at a glance. HomeKit compatibility allows users to create smart home scenarios involving the Smart Smoke Alarm. For example, it can be configured to switch on all your smart lights when smoke is detected to make sure the whole house is alerted. Meanwhile, Netatmo's new Indoor Security Siren activates a piercing 110-decibel chime when a home intrusion is detected by Netatmo's existing Welcome camera or Tags, with a goal of scaring away intruders. The siren is highly

Smart Outdoor Security Camera 'Netatmo Presence' Now Available

Announced back at CES earlier this year, Netatmo today is officially launching its smart outdoor security camera, called "Presence," for $299.99. Using a "breakthrough deep-learning algorithm," the Presence security camera detects people, cars, and animals that appear outside the home, and reports all activity via notifications and recordings through the connected Netatmo Security app. [Direct Link] The camera's smart learning algorithm allows it to decipher between objects, people, and animals, and subsequently send notifications that dynamically warn users of exactly what's appearing outside their home with the text: "Person seen," "Car seen," or "Animal seen." The company said this provides peace of mind for everything from everyday to vacation homes, and can alleviate worry for problems when users aren't home, such as warning when a delivery driver has dropped off a package. Presence captures 1080p videos "under any light conditions" with an extensive 100 degree field of view and 65 foot detection range. The Wi-Fi connected camera is waterproof and can resist sun, ice, rain and wind. "Presence marks a new step forward for consumer security cameras. Unlike existing surveillance systems that need human analysis, Presence understands what’s happening outside the house and operates without requiring a subscription. The camera instantly detects unusual situations and sends precise notifications to the users’ smartphone. Presence offers peace of mind to the users: it alerts them in real time if there’s a break-in, an intruder, or property damage", explains

Netatmo's HomeKit-Enabled 'Healthy Home Coach' Tracks Air Quality and More

Accessory manufacturer Netatmo has launched its home monitoring system, called the "Healthy Home Coach," which connects to a smartphone app to inform users of their home's air quality, humidity, temperature, and noise level (via Engadget). As a plus, users of the company's smart indoor climate monitor will be able to integrate the system with Apple's HomeKit and use Siri to interact with the Netatmo device. Netatmo designed the Healthy Home Coach with the same aesthetic of its security and weather devices, but with the specific goal of elevating the well-being and user awareness of a home's healthy environment. The company says that the device allows users to discover the precise noise level for sound sleeping, and guides them in adjusting a humidifier to hit the target humidity levels for someone with asthma. The Healthy Home Coach can also tip users and tell them when to adjust the ventilation of a room to balance out air quality -- for better concentration, according to Netatmo -- and warn them when their home's temperature isn't at the right level. The device's connected iOS app pushes out these notifications and tells users when the air quality, temperature, humidity, or noise level is acting out of their pre-set parameters, so they can subsequently address the warning before it becomes a problem. HomeKit integration isn't divulged with many specifics, but Netatmo says that users can "ask Siri how healthy your home is," and receive an audible diagnosis from the Healthy Home Coach's various information readouts. Anyone interested can purchase Netatmo's

CES 2016: Netatmo Announces 'Presence' Security Camera That Can Detect Cars, People and Animals

Netatmo, the company behind products like the Welcome Smart Home camera and the Personal Weather Station, today announced its latest product, a smart outdoor security camera it's calling Presence. Presence is able to detect and distinguish between cars, people, and animals using a deep learning algorithm. When installed outside, the camera can let home owners know if there's a pet in the yard, a car in the driveway, or a person loitering outside the house. It is smart enough to be able to tell the difference between objects, alerting users with smart notifications if something unusual is detected. Most security cameras are not quite as sophisticated and are only able to detect motion. Presence includes infra-red night vision for monitoring in low-light conditions, and it has an integrated smart floodlight that comes on when needed to capture bright color videos even in the middle of the night. The light can also be used as a motion-activated light to deter unwanted visitors. It has a 100 degree field of view, a 20 meter detection range, and it is weatherproof. Like many security cameras, Presence uses smart zones to filter out common movements. Users can select specific areas for monitoring, such as the front door or a backyard gate. Whenever motion is detected within a smart zone, Presence will send an optional notification. Presence stores data locally on an internal Micro SD card and is able to transfer recorded footage to a personal FTP server. Netatmo's aim is to make Presence easy to install, so it is able to connect to an existing outdoor light socket.
