Apple Pushes Emergency Mac Fix for Screen Sharing Flaw - Update Now
Apple doesn't usually release a Mac update a week after the last one, but macOS Tahoe 26.6.1 isn't routine – it fixes a critical vulnerability.
An identified flaw allowed an attacker already on the same Wi-Fi network to authenticate Screen Sharing without valid credentials. Apple says it has addressed the authentication issue with "improved state management."
The update arrived on Thursday alongside macOS Sonoma 14.8.9 and macOS Sequoia 15.7.9, both of which also include the fix.
Screen Sharing lets you view and control another Mac on the same network, and it's supposed to ask for a username and password first. This is where the vulnerability was found.
In its security support document, Apple doesn't say whether anyone exploited it before the patch was issued, but Apple rarely gives out that much information.
The update can be applied by going into your Mac's System Settings and selecting General ➝ Software Update.
