iOS 27 Speeds Up the iPhone You Already Own: Here's How

Apple has spent a good chunk of development time on its upcoming iOS 27 software update to improve the speed of your iPhone, rather than simply adding new features or AI bloat.

Apple says that app launching on iPhone and iPad is up to 30 percent faster, while photos taken on iPhone appear in iCloud Photos up to 70 percent sooner.

Not only that, AirDrop transfers are said to run up to 80 percent quicker, and file transfers in the Files app complete up to 50 percent faster.

System animations have been sped up too, while a new CPU scheduler sorts which jobs matter most and makes sure they run on time. Apple says it has also reworked network handoffs, so switching between cellular and Wi-Fi should feel more seamless.

Performance gains can also be expected when closing windows in iPadOS, pairing new HomeKit devices, playing songs in Apple Music, loading messages in Mail, saving PDFs, starting workouts in the Workout app, JavaScript handling in Safari, and more.

If your existing iPhone can run iOS 26, it can run iOS 27, so expect these improvements to positively impact your device when the update drops in the fall. It should feel like your cheapest upgrade yet.
