Apple's Behind the Scenes Cookie Monster Ad Ranked Top 5 of Spring

Advertising analytics company Ace Metrix has published its latest list of the top breakthrough ads in the second quarter, and Apple's behind the scenes "Timer" ad starring iconic Sesame Street character Cookie Monster earned fifth place.

"Timer - Behind The Scenes" has been viewed over 3 million times on YouTube since the video was uploaded in early April. In the 90-second spot, Cookie Monster humorously interacts with Siri on iPhone 6s as he bakes chocolate chip cookies.

The series of outtakes are derived from Apple's original "Timer" ad starring Cookie Monster, which has over 11 million views on YouTube since its March debut. Both ads promote hands-free "Hey Siri" on iPhone 6s.

The four ads that ranked above Apple's spot include This Father's Day, Go Ask Dad by Gillette, Thank You, Mom - Strong by Procter & Gamble, Caring Makes My Dad, My Hero by Dove Skin, and Introducing Voice Access Beta by Google.

Ace Metrix shared in-depth insights about "Timer - Behind The Scenes" in April. "Apple sees continued success incorporating a beloved character and humor with their product," the post reads. "Even people who aren't Apple users or fans enjoyed watching."

Cookie Monster is such a bad image to be showing our kids. His character makes lighthearted fun of neuroses and gluttony, while telling kids that it's okay to eat massive amounts of cookies, which are loaded with bad carbs and chemicals. He should be promoting copious consumption of kale, quinoa and vegan bacon, instead. Not only that, but his persona casts a negative light on those amongst us who are of the blue persuasion, and who have eyes on the top of their heads.

Apple is a very bad company for associating themselves with such a negative character, and Tim Cook should be fired. And Eddy Cue. And Beats was a dumb purchase. And the iPhone needs to be thicker, with a 9 day battery. And bring back iOS 6. I miss green felt.

Oh, and unlock the damn phone, Apple.

I agree and Apple probably only had to pay him in cookies for his services.

Genuinely thought you were serious until I read "vegan bacon" :p

...perpetuates the negative stereotype of hairy men with big appetites that have endured prejudice through the centuries.

And what of hairy women? Are they not people too? I'm offended by your lack of respect for the follicularly abundant lady!

Kudos. That's a pretty darn good, "But what about the children? And the discrimination angle? Not bad... not bad at all. The Apple angle is the proverbial cherry on the top. Nice.
I have a co-worker who could do a 4 page word salad espousing the same sentiments. Only she'd be dead freaking serious, getting more red faced and breathless with every keystroke. Never let her corner you in the breakroom.
