GameSpy offers some initial details regarding the upcoming XBox 2 from Microsoft.
Our interest in the XBox 2 stems from the 2003 announcement that IBM Processor technology would power the upcoming XBox revision.
Leaked reports pointed to PowerPC based three core CPUs, but few details were available.
The report from GameSpy describes a CPU with "three 3.0 GHz PowerPC cores. Each core is capable of two instructions per cycle and has an L1 cache with 32 KB for data and 32 KB for instructions. The three cores share 1 MB of L2 cache. Alpha 2 developer kits currently have two cores instead of three."
While the processor technology in the upcoming XBox may not find their way into Macs directly, the progression of IBM processor technology will have their impact on the PowerPC line. There has been speculation that upcoming PowerPC multi-core processors will find their way into future PowerMacs.
