iLife '04 Clarification [Updated]

Seems many have strong feelings about the Apple iLife '04 suite and the (reportedly) new policy of not providing downloads for iMovie and iPhoto.

A few clarifications:

- Once available, the entire iLife suite (iPhoto, iDVD, iMovie, iTunes, GarageBand) will come bundled with every new Macintosh at no additional charge.
- Individuals who purchase a new Mac on or after Jan 6, 2004 and do not get iLife '04 included with their Mac can get iLife '04 for $19.95.
- Non Edu Users who do not fall in these categories and want the newly announced versions of iMovie, iPhoto, iDVD and GarageBand must purchase iLife '04 for $49.00
- Educational Customers may purchase iLife '04 for $29.
- iLife Family pack is available for $79.
- Users who do not want or need these updated applications may continue to use their current iLife applications.
- iTunes users may continue to download the newest versions from Apple's website

Assuming CNet's report is accurate... this primarily represents a shift in policy for the iPhoto application which has historically been freely available for download.

iDVD has always had associated upgrade fees and is too large to offer for download. GarageBand is a brand new application and will also likely be too large to offer for download. iMovie 2.0 was a $49 upgrade while iMovie 3.0 was freely available for download. iTunes remains a free download.
