MacWeek
reports that IBM href="http://macweek.zdnet.com/2000/06/11/0613more
ppc.html">gave some more details of the 750CX
(350-550mhz) and 750CXe (500-700mhz) at href="http://www.chipanalyst.com/epf/">the Embedded
Processor Forum 2000.
"Peter Sandon, Senior PowerPC Processor Architect
for IBM Microelectronics and the architect of the 750CX
processor, said the new chips were designed for
high-end embedded and desktop
systems--possibly including Macs, though that
decision depends on Apple, one of IBM's major
PowerPC customers."
Of note, the new chips contain only 256k of
on-chip L2 cache, and provides no pinouts for
off-chip L2 cache. The smaller size of the 750CX's
mean lower production costs.
