Mossberg: 3G iPhone In 60 Days [Updated]
It is unknown whether Mossberg made the claim using additional knowledge or simply from circulating rumors, however his closeness to Apple and Steve Jobs shouldn't be overlooked.
Update: Mossberg denies having specific knowledge of the 3G iPhone's release date.

"Walt Mossberg has confirmed what AT&T Mobility CEO Ralph de la Vega already hinted at CTIA: the iPhone will be 3G-capable "in 60 days." Mossberg said it 6:53 into this Beet.tv feature. Knowing that it's going to be one year after release, what De la Vega said, and the fact that Walt gets his mitts on the goods way before anyone else, it's only logical to think he is right. We will discover it around June 4."
Exciting stuff, I am praying this dude is right. Sounds like a WWDC release.
He said it very specifically also. In addition the LONG version is at Gizmodo and the whole talk he gave is very interesting IMO.

he said very specifically something about flash on iphone as well, hmm... what was it?? oh yeah, it was " plug-in for Adobe’s Flash ... within the next couple of months." And that was July, last year.

i'm not convinced.

Well, AT&T CEO confirmed 3G, and Steve Jobs has said 3G is coming (although he never gave a date aside from "2008").
As far as Flash, Jobs pretty much denounced it, which he has not done with regards to 3G.
I wonder after this slip up he will get the :apple: goodies early before anyone else like he normally does;)

it's long way to go before 2008 is gone... 3g iphone will of course come, but it will be more like august-september.
it seems that walt is carefull not to make statements that would reveal any confidental information he might have obtained from apple. what he does, however, is make educated guesses, and he doesn't seem to be any better in making those than anyone else following the rumor mill.
so i think he's basing his statement on the same analysts (gene "45m iphones in 2009" munster) and rumors ("black backside of 3g iphone") that has been circulating around here for a while now.
in other words: this is not a "leak" and there's not much new information either.
