The new Mac mini and Mac Studio models unveiled by Apple this week are the company's first new Macs announced in August since 2020.
It is extremely rare for Apple to announce new products of any kind in August, excluding smaller things like new color options and accessories.
As mentioned, Apple's last notable August product announcement was in 2020, when it updated the 27-inch iMac and a few other iMac models.
Apple announced that it will be holding its next event on Wednesday, September 9, with the company widely expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, its first-ever foldable iPhone, the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4, AirPods 5, and potentially more. Evidently, it chose to get these new Macs out of the way first. However, the computers will not be released until Tuesday, September 22.
October is a more common month for Apple to unveil new Macs. There are still some other models rumored to launch this year, including an iMac with an M6 chip, a 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M6 chip, and potentially all-new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro or "MacBook Ultra" models with an OLED touch screen, a thinner design, and more, so perhaps there will still be additional Mac announcements in October this year.
Apple is expected to release at least 13 more products this year, so new Macs in August could signal that September and October will be very busy.
