Here Are All Benchmark Results for the M4 Pro and M4 Max Chips So Far

Over the past two days, the first Geekbench 6 benchmark results have surfaced for Apple's new M4 Pro and M4 Max chips, providing some performance comparisons.

M4 M4 Pro vs M4 Max Feature
We have shared multi-core CPU performance results for the M4 Pro and for the M4 Max, so check out those posts to see the scores the chips achieved. In summary, the highest-end variants of the M4 Pro and M4 Max are both able to outperform the highest-end M2 Ultra chip in the Mac Studio and Mac Pro, which is impressive. Specifically, the M4 Max is up to 25% faster than the M2 Ultra in terms of peak multi-core CPU performance.

For customers choosing between the M4 Pro and M4 Max, the M4 Max appears to be up to 20% faster than the M4 Pro in terms of peak multi-core CPU performance. The M4 Max is now the fastest Apple silicon chip in the Geekbench 6 database.

As we mentioned in our previous reporting, you can now purchase a Mac mini with a 14-core M4 Pro for $1,599 in the U.S. and get similar to faster peak performance than a Mac Studio with the 24-core M2 Ultra, a configuration that starts at $3,999. And if you want up to 25% faster performance than the M2 Ultra, the 16-inch MacBook Pro with the 16-core M4 Max starts at the same $3,999 price as the Mac Studio.

As for graphics performance, GPU-focused Geekbench 6 results show that the M4 Pro is up to 25% faster than the M3 Pro chip, and the M4 Max is up to 40% faster than the M3 Max chip. Those are very respectable year-over-year gains. The highest-end M4 Max with a 40-core GPU has up to 85% as fast graphics as the Mac Studio with the highest-end M2 Ultra chip with a 76-core GPU, despite having 36 fewer GPU cores.

Keep in mind that the M4 Pro's impressive performance gains are partly due to the M3 Pro being a very minor upgrade over the M2 Pro chip last year.

All of the new Macs with M4 series chips launch Friday, November 8.
