Tim Cook Just Announced His Final Apple Product

Apple's latest Mac mini was just unveiled alongside a new Mac Studio, and outgoing CEO Tim Cook announced it on social media the way he has announced probably hundreds of other Apple products before it.

"The new Mac mini is here," he posted on X (Twitter). "Small in size. Big on performance. From everyday productivity to all things AI, it can help you do it all."

It reads like any other announcement from Apple's CEO, but it's also likely to be his last one.

Cook hands the reins to incoming CEO John Ternus on September 1, and Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that the Mac mini will probably be the final new product to debut under Cook's watch. Everything rumored to be in the pipeline behind it – from new iPhone 18 Pro models to the company's first foldable (aka "iPhone Ultra") – will become Ternus's to unveil. Apple's fall iPhone event this year is expected to take place on September 9.

15 years ago this week, Cook took over from Steve Jobs and inherited a company defined by the iPhone and iPad. He leaves it ushering in a mini Mac refresh that asks customers to bring their own display and peripherals, officially announced in a press release, and without a keynote or a stage. It's a low-key, gracious exit, which is what we've come to expect from Cook, who will remain at Apple as executive chairman, where he will engage with policymakers and help Apple navigate mounting regulatory pressure.

Thursday July 30, 2026 3:48 pm PDT by
