Apple has indicated there will be increased AI limits for certain iCloud+ subscriptions when iOS 27 launches this fall with Siri AI and new Apple Intelligence features.
At WWDC in June, Apple revealed there would be daily usage limits for some Apple Intelligence features, like the much-improved Image Playground, but it said that users could get increased access through iCloud+ plans.
In his latest earnings call on Thursday, Apple CEO Tim Cook reiterated that the company will have "some kind of upgrade possibilities" on iCloud+ for buying more AI access, but he didn't go into specifics.
Commenting on Cook's remarks, however, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said the company's plan "isn't new" and had been the case since WWDC. "2TB iCloud+ plans have higher rate limits for Siri AI and Apple Intelligence features," he added, revealingly.
Apple has already stated that iOS 27 will have new Apple Intelligence features for compatible cameras in Apple's Home app, but only for users that pay for an iCloud+ plan with at least 2TB of storage. The features include AI descriptions for HomeKit Secure Video footage, the ability to search through camera clips, and automatic surfacing of noteworthy clips.
When Apple's revamped Siri AI comes in September with the release of iOS 27, the upgraded assistant will understand what's displayed on your screen, answer questions about it, and complete tasks across different apps.
Alongside the enhanced Siri experience, Apple will also launch a dedicated Siri AI app featuring a conversational interface similar to ChatGPT. Going on Gurman's comments, 2TB iCloud+ subscribers will get higher access limits to this chatbot-style feature, though Apple hasn't officially confirmed it yet.
