Everything New in iOS 18.0.1

The first update to iOS 18 is here, and it introduces some important bug fixes and security improvements. If you haven't updated yet, you'll want to download and install the iOS 18.0.1 software to get the latest features.

Generic iOS 18

Bug Fixes

There are several bug fixes that address issues people have encountered since installing the iOS 18 update, including problems with the touch screen and camera.

Touch Screen

On some iPhone 16 models, the touch screen could be temporarily unresponsive, making it impossible to select on-screen items, scroll, and more. iOS 18.0.1 fixes this bug, so you'll want to update if you have an ‌iPhone 16‌ and are having touch screen problems.

Camera

The ‌iPhone 16‌ Pro had a bug that could cause the Camera app to freeze up when using Macro mode in 4K with HDR turned off. It's a niche issue, but shouldn't be a problem going forward.

Messages

The Messages app across all devices could freeze up if someone sent you a shared Apple Watch face and then you replied to the message. You'll no longer see issues when someone sends a watch face after the iOS 18.0.1 update.

Performance

Apple says that there was a memory allocation issue that could impact performance on some iPhone models. There's no word on which specific models were affected, but if you've been having odd issues, this might explain it.

Security Updates

iOS 18.0.1 fixes two vulnerabilities, one with the Messages app and one with the Passwords app.

When recording an audio message in the Messages app, a few seconds of audio could be captured before the microphone indicator activated. Apple fixed this so you'll always see the microphone indicator when recording is taking place.

As for the Passwords app, VoiceOver was able to be used to read saved passwords, which is not an intended use of the VoiceOver feature. Apple disabled this in iOS 18.0.1 so there's no workaround for people to get to your passwords.

How to Install

You can install iOS 18.0.1 on a compatible ‌iPhone‌ by going to General > Software Update in the Settings app. iOS 18 is available on the ‌iPhone‌ XS/XR and later.
