Is this thing really that bad - even at $75?
It’s really not half as bad as forums make it out to.

It’s a decent solution and works reliably. Charges at a cool 5W for minimal heating issues while providing power. It’s clearly geared to be used long-term rather than snapping it on when battery is low and you need quick charge. In that regard, previous solution was more seamless (design-wise). And it’s this 5W that’s having people running around fussing over it as if we are camping in the woods without power everyday or that our iPhones need charging every two minutes so the 5W charging won’t be enough or fast enough. It’s good. It’s really good if we get out of the survival mode and start living in the present world with countless power outlets available around us.

Furthermore you can charge your AirPods with it in a pinch (wireless charging). That’s something you couldn’t do before.

All in all, it’s a great accompaniment for the Apple ecosystem (AirPods + iPhone) and not just for the iPhone.

That’s what makes it great.

I've had this since release and have been unimpressed by it. I would much rather have their old battery case that connects with the physical port.

Owned one and wasn’t impressed at all. Sold it for a $10 loss pretty quickly. And I am a huge fan of the MagSafe duo so I do like Apple MagSafe stuff.

The capacity and charging speed are just too low. I have an Anker battery pack with USB-C Power Delivery charging speed and this just doesn’t compare favorably.

Especially on price.

For what you’re getting, the Apple battery pack should be $29.

I love my MagSafe battery pack. Got it when it came out. It’s super convenient to slap on and go. I do a lot of long, all day hikes or overnight hikes, and take tons of photos and use gps. I’ll start my hike with the battery pack on and by the time the pack dies, the day is at least half over and I’ve still got a full phone battery. Take the battery off, put it in my pack, and move on. Any other battery I’d have cables coming out of my pockets. The MagSafe is so much more convenient.
