The XScale architecture offers performance roughly 20 times the Dragonball and uses less power, said MicroDesign resources analyst Peter Glaskowsky. The chip architecture also is able to shift performance on the fly, throttling up for multimedia programs and conserving power when running a calendar or memo pad.
The result is a handheld capable of running video but still able to run on off-the-shelf batteries, analysts said.
StrongARM, of course, was utilized in the last incarnation of the Apple Newton. Apple's participation in the PDA Market is still notably absent.

The lower-end iPhone 18 models set to launch in spring 2027 will feature 9GB DRAM, up from 8GB, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Kuo says the A20 chip Apple plans to use for the devices will have 1.5GB x 6 dies for a total of 9GB RAM, instead of 2GB x 4 dies as the current lower-end iPhone 17 models use.
