Hulu Now Supports HDR on Apple TV for Original Content

Hulu this week began implementing HDR, HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision for some of its original television shows and movies, so Apple TV owners can now watch Hulu content in HDR.

HDR content offers a higher contrast range for more detail, and Hulu TV shows and movies that support HDR content will display an HDR badge on the details page if they are available to stream in HDR.

Hulu's HDR content is available on the fifth-generation ‌Apple TV‌ 4K and later, as well as the Chromecast Ultra, Fire TV devices, Roku devices, and Vizio TVs. HDR support is not available on mobile devices at this time.

As noted by CNET, HDR support is limited to Hulu originals, which includes "Handmaid's Tale," "Little Fires Everywhere," "Nine Perfect Strangers," "Future Man," "Castle Rock," and more.

Hulu appears to be rolling out support for HDR, so not all ‌Apple TV‌ users may see it available immediately.

refuse to use HULU on Apple TV until they get 5.1.
The photo of The Handmaid's Tale from this story shows a little 5.1 logo right next to 4k? Am I missing something?

Hulu added 5.1 surround a month or two ago for Apple TV ('https://thestreamable.com/news/5-1-surround-sound-comes-to-hulu'). Glad to finally have HDR too.

Now I just need Netflix to just stop up selling 4K/HDR.

Hulu is worse than Apple with implementing things 10 years after the rest of the industry has adopted them. They still don’t offer 5.1 on the AppleTV.

I refuse to use HULU on Apple TV until they get 5.1. its ridiculous I have use my smart tv's OS solely to watch hulu cus it can actually do 5.1 there's NO REASON this should be. I first got hulu 5 years ago expecting HDR to arrive any day...
I have an Apple TV 4K and I’m getting 5.1 shows from Hulu.

That’s a lot of qualifiers. Let me know when they don’t play ads after a stream is interrupted and restarted.

It's a shame, as my TV is a pretty new Sony XBR900H that supposedly supports all of these modes.

I have tried my FireStick 4K and the built in Android OS but have been unsuccessful in getting the settings to not output in HDR.

Perhaps now I have a reason to get an Apple TV...
The X900H should be able to put out at least a decent HDR image, it's contrast ratio isn't the greatest, but it can still get decently bright. RTINGS recommends the following for it though "If you find HDR content too dim, you can make it brighter by using the 'Vivid' Picture Mode, with Local Dimming, X-tended Dynamic Range, and Advanced Contrast Enhancer all set to 'High'. These settings result in a much brighter image, as you can see in this EOTF ('https://www.rtings.com/assets/products/IJJFEsl5/sony-x900h/eotf-make-hdr-brighter-large.jpg')." from the HDR brightness section of their review here: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x900h

If you find that still doesn't help enough, I highly recommend the Apple TV 4K it's definitely the best streaming device on the market when in comes to video handling/thoroughness of available options.
