These rumors have mixed up so much. Apple doesn't return to Touch ID after saying Face ID is thousands times more secure.

If there is another iPhone SE it should be “small edition” and not the cheap-out version. In other words, a modern iPhone designed to be smaller. If Apple would just make an iPhone that fits the physical size of the current SE but with the X style treatment I would buy it immediately.

Do these people really believe that Apple will walk back on Face ID? After going with it on the iPads, the company has given more than enough evidence that it is fully invested in it. Never mind the fact that once you use Face ID you realize how much superior it is to Touch ID.

I beg to differ. I am often having to do multiple swipes/attempts to get a successful authentication. TouchID worked much better for me and my use cases with near 0 re-attempts.

These mock ups actually don’t look to bad compared to some of the others.

I hope they don’t ditch 3D Touch.

But Touch ID is dead.

Edit: I think it looks better because the camera bump is smaller.

Funny, I went back to Touch ID on my new iPad 2018 (I use FaceID on my iPhone X, and my prior iPhone was TouchID) and wow it is BETTER than face ID. Face ID constantly fails for me (and yes I have setup two profiles). If I am in the sun and my face is squinting it fails, it fails at times with my sunglasses, it fails all the time while laying down, it fails if I dont hold the iphone at about the same distance from my face. It fails so much that I keep my passcode as 4 digits because I am constantly entering it.

Whereas, when I went back to Touch ID, I was surprised how Touch ID in the iPad works all the time and is far more reliable in terms of working. It never fails whether I am in the sun, looking down, laying down, hair over my eyes, etc.

The big difference is to get Face ID to work I have to think about how I am holding the iPhone and my facial expression. Touch ID I don't think about being in the "sweet spot" for it to work.

Face ID is a great idea, but it is not as consistent in authenticating as Touch ID is for me...
