MacRumors site design has been updated.
The new design preserves the basic feel of MacRumors but brings improved "standards" compliance and improved site navigation. Raw HTML file sizes should also be reduced.
Please report any errors or navigational difficulties to arn.
MacRumors' Forums will also see a major version upgrade in the future at which time the forum style will be brought into line with the new design.
A few things to note:
- Ad free 'contributors' version will be functional shortly.
- Permanent story links can now be found by clicking on the Article Titles.
- Forums will follow.

According to Appleinsider, pre-production PowerPC G5 based Xserves have successfully undergone quality assurance testing earlier this week.
Appleinsider had previously reported Xserve G5s as imminent in October, but according to today's report, Apple had run against some unsatisfactory QA results on a batch of G5 Xserves in late November.
Expectations from the rumor site again place the Xserve G5 release as "imminent" -- with a release at or soon after MacWorld Expo 2004 with delivery not until February.
Appleinsider offers no new details on specs or form factor for the revised Xserve. Very few reliable details on the upcoming Xserves have emerged. ThinkSecret had hinted that a 3U enclosure was being considered, while Appleinsider posted unconfirmed hints of a revised 1U case.
The Xserve was last updated in February of 2003 to Dual 1.33GHz G4s.
While some claim more authority than others... the source of all these articles appears to be a common Reuters article published on December 24th, based on the usual rumor sites. As a result, these articles lend no more credance to the story than that of the Mac Rumor web.

MacObserver notes that the most recent (November) MP3 Player sales numbers from IDC continues to place the iPod at #1 in overall sales.
The 10GB Apple iPod ($299) reportedly edged out the cheaper 128MB Digitalway ($140) in overall sales, with the remainder of the iPod models also being well represented:

Last year, MacRumors published our first Rumor Reject and Unconfirmed List. This compilation of unconfirmed and unverifiable rumors offered readers a glimpse of the tidbits that never quite made it onto MacRumors.com's front page.
Surprisingly enough, a couple of these out-of-nowhere rumors came true in 2003. Apple-branded Presentation Software and Apple Music Sales rumors evolved into Apple's Keynote software and the iTunes Music Store, respectively, while hints of a 30" Apple Display have now graduated into a full fledged rumor over this past year.
With the addition of MacRumors' Page 2 in early 2003, most of the questionable 2003 rumors have already found their way into the limelight... however, a few unconfirmable stragglers remain:
- Apple DV Recorder (to transfer video into your Mac)
- A product called the "Apple iBook Studio Display"
- iSight Cameras built into both Apple LCDs and PowerBooks
- Dual Processor iMac in early 2004
- Dual Processor PowerBooks
- Apple Set Top Box with wireless networking, allowing the streaming of movies to your TV from your Mac or iPod via "next generation" bluetooth.
This list is published for interest's sake and should not be seen as claims or rumors from MacRumors.com.

Amidst the buzz surrounding the rumored "mini" iPods coming, MacRumors has received reliable confirmation that, indeed, new mini iPods will be announced at MacWorld San Francisco.
The new iPods will be physically smaller than current iPods. The "mini" description reportedly refers not only to the diminished capacity (2GB and 4GB by some reports), but also to the physical size of the units.
The mini iPods will also come in a variety of solid colors as previously reported... but no confirmation on patterns/stripes. At least one of the colors intended is reported to be "Gold" (not plated).
Pricing of the new iPods remains unclear -- with conflicting reports, but is reportedly significantly less than current models.
The fate of PowerMac and Xserve updates appear less likely at MacWorld San Francisco.

As 2003 comes to an end, MacRumors has seen significant growth and continued success.
The site has always meant to provide an easy method to track and report interesting Mac News and Rumor items, and I feel it continues to succeed at this basic task.
The next couple of weeks will bring the "ultimate" event for the avid Mac-news/rumor follower... a MacWorld Expo Keynote event. Readers should remember that last year's MacWorld San Francisco keynote brought us 12" and 17" PowerBooks, Safari, Keynote, and iApp updates.
2004 should bring more exciting news and rumors about Apple, as well as steady improvements to MacRumors.com itself.
