Apple's Oscar Ad Shot Entirely on an iPad

Apple debuted a new iPad ad to air during tonight's Oscar's. Apple highlights the new ad on their website which features students at Los Angeles County High School, using the iPad to write, produce, shoot, score, and edit films. It features a voiceover from Martin Scorsese and is called "Make a film with iPad".

Mashable reports that the ad itself was filmed entirely on an iPad Air 2. Apple created a special section in the App Store highlighting the various apps used by the students for their filmmaking.

The iPad is the camera... and you can also edit on the iPad... which I think is the point Apple is trying to make.

Notice how the ad says "Additional hardware used"

I think everyone knows the iPad doesn't come with dolly tracks, lights and boom microphones. :)

You'd need all that extra stuff if you used a traditional cinema camera or DSLR.

I really really REALLY hope this is done in a genuine way, without thousands of dollars of extra hardware to improve what a typical user can obtain.

Whilst when they do that, it's technically still being shot on an iPad or an iPhone or whatever, I don't really feel it's in the True Spirit of the thing.

If you want to say "Shot only with an iPad or an iPhone" Then that's all the hardware that should be used.

No pro lighting rigs, no steady cams, no stick on lens's. Nothing, just the device. At the VERY most perhaps a tripod, and just edit the footage to look nice.

That would be in the spirit of the thing as I say, and I hop this is what they have done this time.

Kind of makes it seem like a waste that most people use them to play games while they're on the toilet. ;)
