AT&T Prepping Store Displays for Next-Generation iPhone?

Boy Genius Report claims to have received word that AT&T is preparing to roll out large in-store displays for a new product, presumed to be the next-generation iPhone.

According to them, AT&T has started to send engineers out to corporate store locations to try and plan / start setting up a "new kind of display." We're told that this is most likely a new iPhone display as there isn't anything else that's dedicated to a single device that would require the resources this display will.

Boy Genius Report has long kept its ear to the ground for rumors coming out of AT&T and other wireless carriers and has in the past reported blocks on AT&T employee vacations during iPhone launch windows and reported just last week that the carrier had confirmed to its employees that the next iPhone will be launching in June.

Oddly enough, I hate AT&T corporate stores. I even work for them (on the landline/commercial side) and I still loathe the idea of setting foot into one of their stores. I'll be getting mine from the Apple store at the mall.

While I don't like any cell phone stores, AT&T isn't as bad as the Verizon stores in my neck of the woods. I've seen people physically thrown from a Verizon store on multiple occasions (multiple stores no less) when they asked why the staff keeps skipping them and servicing the next person in line.

One of the employees at an AT&T store near me was very helpful when I phoned to ask about the in-store activation procedures, and again when I visited the store in person. As in Apple Stores, you sometimes find just the right employee with the answers you want.

At launch day for the 3G, my AT&T store only had 16 handsets and made over 50+ people waiting in line wait without any idea how many they had in stock. I don't trust them at all to have enough to meet demand.

Verizon stores are BORING!

all you see is black & red. And the geekiest Verizon fan boys that you've ever seen. Heck, they're geekier than Apple's own Apple Store employees!
