NASA iPhone Application Appears in App Store


NASA, the U.S. space agency, has released an iPhone application [App Store, Free] that enables users to stay on top of the latest NASA news. Unfortunately, Apple was forced to remove the app after reports of bricked iPhones. Scientists at NASA were "shocked" to learn that programming of the accelorometer was not supposed to be in metric numerics.;)

Didn't I read something in the AT&T Terms of Service that "telemetry devices" are prohibited? Isn't that what the satellite data is?

I'm pretty sure they mean telemetry as directly connecting with remote devices. This app doesn't directly connect with NASA's satellites, it just grabs the latest news about them — no different than logging onto NASA's website to see the latest positioning of a probe.

I doubt it.

A telemetry device is something that measures and tracks objects like, say, a space station.

Your iPhone isn't doing that. NASA is doing that and simply sending your phone a map of the results. You're allowed to access a map from over the internet.
