iGo 8 iPhone GPS Demo Video

A Youtube video from PDAMania.hu claims to demonstrate an iPhone/iPod Touch GPS solution at Cebit 2008.

The demo shows two possible options for GPS integration: a wireless Wifi transmitter and a dock-connector adapter. We think it is only a concept application because the presenter states that it is a prototype and that they need to await an SDK from Apple, and because a similar demo video was posted back on January 9th, 2008.

If it were bluetooth I would go for it. I don't want anything hanging off the end of the phone, and having to go through settings to choose different wifi connections would suck. Hopefully they have GPS embedded in the 3g iphone.

As others have said, the music is so ridiculously loud, distracting, and unecessary, it makes me wonder if they even reviewed this video after it was completed. Regardless, this is a positive indication at the awesome apps to come. My guess TomTom, Garmin, Mio, all the GPS lords will have their hands in the cookie jar! More choice and that's always a good thing! :D

That reminds me of my first camera phone. It was a motorola that you had to attach the camera to in order to use it. Guess how much the camera got used!

Of course GPS is more useful than a crappy camera, but eh, I don't want a battery drainer attached to the bottom of my phone when really the map app works great already.

Yes, yes, I know some people really want GPS. I bet most who say that don't actually use their maps that often, they just want more functionality just for bragging rights etc. I use it every day to deliver cars and it is great.

Hopefully I will be replacing my current GPS with an iPod Touch in June then. :D

While I would prefer the GPS to be built in, I would be perfectly happy with that attachment they show in the video. They will of course need an iPod connector interface at the bottom of that GPS attachment, or you aren't going to be able to plug the power in, when in the car.
