DeskMac Hoax

An anonymous user claimed that Apple registered DeskMac.com which points to Apple.com.

Registration information lists Apple Computer, but not under their usual registration id, and utilizes non-Apple domain name servers. The domain appears to be hoax registration.

This news item was posted to curb speculation/rumors on this domain name.

Historically, Apple has owned domain names which have yet to serve any purpose, such as iPhone.org, MacMate.com, and Mammals.org. These urls have existed for years, yet discussions on these urls resurface every now and again.

Very ellaborate - imagine the potential of someone who can put this much effort and thought into a hoax. Maybe they just need to get out a bit more ...

well, there is Jaguar, what's next? Le Tigre?

maybe someone at Apple at one time was trying to throw a wrench in the rumor mill - its obviously working - or did a little experiment to see how long it took someone to find out about it.

why do they have an iPhone.org? Just to take up the name. I know that orgs are not specifically for non profit or others, but it seems to be an unwritten rule.

Think Darwin, as in darwinism.

Mammals evolved as the highest form of life while the dinosaurs became extinct (or become birds... )

what I find interesting is a computer company in NJ has www.macintosh.com - but no site, just the name. Looks like someone was trying to get rich and might have failed. They got the name in 1994 - quite some time ago, especially just to hold on to.

and his email goes to info@computerlarry.com - which isn't a real site either. Ha!

Nice Zoolander reference...but it's all about Magnum.:D

Squatters do some weird things trying to make money off of well-known names, but I'm surprised Apple never went after this guy with macintosh.com.
